Local Movers in Enid, OK

Enid Movers handles household and small-office moves around Enid. Furniture is padded, taken apart where it must be, loaded, hauled and rebuilt in the room you pick. Local means the trip stays in Oklahoma, where the Oklahoma Corporation Commission requires a Household Goods Certificate even for moves within city limits, so ask any mover to show theirs. Send both addresses and your date.

Kinds of local moves

Which of these is yours?

An entire home or condo

Each room, along with the garage, attic, basement and shed.

A rental unit

About 39% of Enid households rent, per Census data. Shared entries and stairs are covered on the apartment moving page.

Just one room

A dorm-bound bedroom, a home office or a nursery.

A small shop or office

Desks, files, shelves and computers, often moved after closing.

To or from a storage unit

At one end of the move or at both.

A single big piece

A couch, a gun safe, a treadmill or an armoire counts as a furniture move, not a house move.

Within one home

Clearing two rooms and filling them again while new flooring goes in.

Care on the day

How damage gets prevented on the day

Most moving damage comes from a handful of mistakes that can be predicted. This is how each one is headed off:

Floors, door frames and stair rails are protected before the first lift.

Runners go down on carpet and walkways, pads on door jambs, wrap on handrails. In most moves the house takes more of a beating than the furniture does.

Upholstered pieces get wrapped, not simply piled up.

Pads go on first, then get secured before loading; a sofa scuffs at its arms and corners.

Flat-pack stays in one piece if it fits through the door.

Particleboard rarely survives being taken apart twice. Cam locks and dowel holes wear out the first time, and a wardrobe broken down to panels often never stands straight again.

Glass and stone tops ride on edge in an upright A-frame.

A slab of stone is weak across its broad face, and carried flat it can split from its own weight after one jolt.

A sofa bed's frame is strapped shut before the couch is tipped.

Left loose, it unfolds in the doorway and catches the frame, the trim or somebody's leg on the way through.

Large pieces are measured at the bottom, before anyone lifts them.

Something that fits the room might not clear the landing, and it's better to learn that first.

Mattresses get bagged.

An unprotected mattress rubbed against a stairwell wall or laid on a driveway picks up stains that stay.

Washers get shipping bolts refitted.

A washer drum hangs on springs, and without those bolts it slams into the cabinet on the road. Water supply lines, the drain hose and the fridge ice-maker line are unhooked and emptied first, so no water ends up on other goods.

Televisions travel standing up, in a fitted box.

Never flat, never with weight resting on the screen.

At the new place, cartons are unloaded by the room written on each one, and beds and tables are rebuilt before the crew heads off.

Cost

What sets the cost

Two homes with matching furniture can take very different amounts of work, and volume is seldom the reason. What counts:

Getting in and out at each address. How far, and how hard, it is from the front door to where a truck can park: steps at either house, a long haul from door to curb, a narrow lane, a sloped or muddy drive, a gate no truck can pass, parked cars on both sides. Census figures put 8,595 of Enid's 23,122 homes before 1960, and older layouts can mean tighter stairs. Each obstacle repeats on every trip.

What needs taking apart. Beds, tables, shelves and anything too big to clear a door in one piece.

How far along your packing is. Boxes taped and labeled ahead of time make for a very different day than a kitchen nobody has wrapped yet.

The date. Late-month days and the summer stretch are when most people move, so they book up soonest.

Anyone pricing a house move properly will want to see what's in it, either by walking through or over a video call. Treat a figure given by phone, sight unseen, with caution: that's the one most likely to shift on moving day.

First steps

Details to gather before you reach out

Only the basics:

The two addresses and the floor at each

Your move date and any wiggle room

A rough idea of the load; a bedroom count usually does it

Anything heavy, breakable or odd-shaped, such as a safe, a piano, a marble table, a pool table or a big fish tank

Whether you'll pack on your own or book packing services instead

With that, the job can be sized.

Smaller jobs

If a full move is more than you need

Said plainly, since it can keep costs down:

A ground-floor studio or one-bedroom, nothing to take apart, and a rental truck or container already parked out front?

Then loading and unloading help fits the job: you keep the truck, and the load gets packed tight so nothing slides around on the road.

Only a handful of boxes?

That's not really a moving job, and calling it one helps nobody.

A few items never ride on the truck.

Propane cylinders, gasoline, paint thinner, aerosol cans, fireworks, ammunition and pool chemicals can't go on a moving truck. Mowers, trimmers and generators only travel with the fuel drained and the spark plug out.

Gas-fed and hard-wired appliances

They need a qualified gas fitter or electrician to unhook and reconnect them. Movers carry the appliance; they leave the gas line and wiring alone.

Keep what can't be replaced close.

Papers, prescriptions, jewelry, keys, laptops and keepsakes go in your own car. The same goes for pets, and for houseplants on any longer trip.

Preparing for the big day

Boxes shut, taped and marked with the room they're headed to. Books packed in small cartons, since a big box of books is too heavy for anyone to lift safely. Liquids and breakables taken out of drawers. The freezer defrosted the night before. A space cleared at the curb for the truck. Kids and pets kept in one closed room instead of underfoot while a ramp runs into the house.

FAQ

Before you book

How early should I reserve?

Once your date is settled. Census figures show 4,236 Enid residents moved within Garfield County in a single year, and month-end and summer dates fill first. If yours falls in one of those, reach out well before you start packing.

What if an item is damaged in the move?

Ask each mover what covers your belongings, how that cover is worked out and what a higher level adds, before agreeing to anything. State rules make household goods carriers keep a cargo insurance certificate on file, and the Oklahoma Corporation Commission Transportation Division takes complaints if a claim stalls.

Should I be home on moving day?

Yes, or have someone you trust make the calls for you. Questions always come up: which items load last, where a piece should go, what gets left behind. Those go more smoothly with a decision-maker on site.

Do you handle pianos, safes and pool tables?

Mention them ahead of time, not on the morning itself. They call for the right gear and enough hands, and a pool table must be taken down and leveled again at the new house. With planning it's all manageable; as an 8am surprise, it isn't.
