Packing Services in Enid, OK

Enid Movers packs up homes and businesses around Enid, whether that's the whole place or just the rooms you can't face, like the kitchen cabinets. Ask what materials come with the booking, such as cartons, plain paper and dish packs, and have every box marked with the room it belongs in. Unpacking at the new address can be added too. Send the rooms you want done and your moving date.

You decide how much to hand over

People often treat packing help as everything or nothing, and that's the usual mistake. There are four ways to use it, and most moves combine them:

The whole house.

All rooms, all cabinets, all drawers. You set aside what you'll need for the final night and first morning, and the rest gets boxed.

Selected rooms.

Just the rooms you'd rather skip. Most often that's the kitchen, followed by the garage, the china cabinet and the home office, while you work through the rest on your own schedule.

Breakables only.

Glassware, china, crystal, mirrors, framed pictures, TVs, instruments and collections are wrapped by someone practiced, while you box up clothes, books and bedding, the simple part in any case.

The unpack.

The part hardly anyone books and nearly everyone later wishes they had. See further down.

Prefer to do the lot yourself? Ask about buying materials on their own. Using the correct box for each item solves most problems, and it's where homemade substitutes let people down most.

Scheduling

Packing happens before the move

Plan your week around this: a full pack takes place ahead of moving day, typically the day prior, and over two or three days for a bigger house. The truck turns up to rooms already in boxes. The moving day itself is explained on the local moving and residential moving pages.

So your final days change shape. Beds, the coffee maker, the shower things and the pets' supplies are boxed last, or on the morning itself. Whatever you're still using stays out and goes into its own carton at the end. Sorting has to be done first, not alongside the packers, because packers box whatever they find, including a drawer of dead batteries and a closet of clothes you'd already decided to give away.

Technique

What careful packing looks like

Damage in transit usually comes from technique, not luck. Here's what a well-packed carton does differently:

Plates stand on edge, like files in a drawer

Stacking them flat sends the weight of the whole pile through the center of the lowest plate, which is the one that breaks first.

Plain packing paper, not newsprint.

Newspaper ink rubs off onto dishes, glassware and painted surfaces, and it takes weeks of washing to remove.

Each box packed full, with all the empty space taken up.

A half-empty box caves in once another is set on top, while a firmly packed one holds the load. Tip a sealed carton gently; nothing inside should shift.

Small boxes for heavy items, large ones for light items.

Pack a big carton with books and the bottom seam gives way, usually halfway down a flight of stairs in someone's arms.

Base seams taped along the joint and up each side

Never just one strip and good luck.

Wine glasses stand in cell dividers

A single glass per slot, so no two pieces touch.

Lampshades packed separately

Nested together, away from the lamp base and anything that could press in. A crushed shade is the most frequent bit of preventable damage on a household move.

Mirrors, art and glass tabletops in adjustable mirror cartons

Moved and loaded upright.

Each box marked with its destination room, which side is up, and a rough note of contents

Nothing gets taped shut before it's listed.

Good to know

What stays out of boxes

Anything that burns, is under pressure, or corrodes.

Gasoline, propane, solvents, thinners, aerosols, pool or lawn chemicals and fireworks don't belong in a box or a truck. Use them up or dispose of them first; the city landfill takes household hazardous waste on up to six trips a year.

Food that's open or will spoil

So the fridge and pantry get cleared out, not packed into cartons.

Papers, medicines, jewelry, keys, laptops, hard drives and anything you can't replace

Keep these with you. NOAA's July normal high in Enid is near 95°F, and a closed truck is no place for pills or drives.

Pets and houseplants

Neither belongs in a box, and each needs its own plan, most often your own vehicle or a service that specializes in moving them.

Things you'd prefer no one else touched.

Mention it, gather it in one room, and keep that door closed.

After the move

Unpacking: the part most people skip

Paying for the pack and not the unpack is the classic way people save money that they then lose in time. Packing runs against a deadline; unpacking drags on for months, fitted around work, with boxes lining the hallway throughout.

An unpack empties cartons one room at a time, sets things on counters or directly into the cabinets you choose, and, most usefully, clears away the packing debris. The pile of flattened boxes and crumpled paper a household move leaves behind is surprisingly hard to dispose of, so ask whether it leaves with the movers when you book, because that alone is worth a lot.

Size it the way you sized the packing: every room, or only enough for the kitchen and the bedrooms to work on that first night.

Declutter first

Soon someone will wrap, box, carry and unwrap everything you own, including things you'd planned to throw out. Deciding what stays behind is the best-spent afternoon of the move, and on a long-distance move, where weight drives the cost, it pays off even more. It has to happen first, though. Once a carton is taped up, no one is going to slit it open again to reconsider a lamp or a stack of old magazines.

Cost

What drives the cost

The number of rooms, the share that's fragile, the specialty materials involved (dish packs, wardrobe cartons, mirror boxes, crates for artwork or stone), whether unpacking is part of it, and how much sorting is left undone when packing starts.

One point isn't about cost. Whether you or the mover sealed a box can change who is responsible if what's inside arrives damaged. The Oklahoma Corporation Commission has movers keep cargo insurance on file, so ask what that cover means for boxes you packed yourself before you split the rooms. For china, art and anything truly valuable, the answer may settle who packs it.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Are boxes and packing supplies included?

Packing crews normally bring cartons, plain paper, tape and any specialty boxes the job calls for, but this differs from one company to the next. Confirm exactly what's covered when you book instead of assuming.

Can I do a few rooms myself and leave you the others?

That's the most popular setup. Agree which rooms are yours and which aren't, and mark your own boxes clearly so nothing is packed twice or left behind.

Should I be home during the packing?

Ideally someone is, at least when it starts and when it wraps up. Questions always come up about what's staying, what rides in your car and which cabinet is off limits, and they take seconds in person but ages to untangle later.

Where does all the used cardboard end up?

If unpacking is part of the booking, ask whether the cardboard leaves with the movers. If you're unpacking yourself, plan ahead: the City of Enid Solid Waste Department gives residents with a utility bill 12 landfill trips a year, which beats overfilling the cart.

Want the packing off your plate?

Send the rooms you'd like packed, how many bedrooms the home has, your moving date, and whether you'd like unpacking at the new place. Moving an office or shop instead? commercial moving explains how the work is usually shared between your staff and the movers.
